This Is What Natural Beauty Looks Like

Our natural beauty – our beauty when we are not primping ourselves and being honest – is stark, and the real is the most moving.

With that said, it is kind of fun to primp! Some of us like to do it often, while others reserve it for special occasions.

I especially like to indulge with things I can find in my kitchen. This all started when I did a facial party at Remedies Day Spa years ago. I was hooked after that. Fondue and I feel pretty? Yes, please!

Of course I don’t always do the fondue, but on Sunday nights I like to take some time to myself and do it up right.

I will typically use a scrub, steamer, & mask followed with a moisturizer.

Below are a few recipes I can quickly pull together. I am by no means an expert so be thoughtful as you mix and create. I have never experienced adverse reactions to the following recipes but do use common sense; avoid things you have allergies to and do a little research beforehand if you have sensitive skin.

This is fun to do as a party as well. Set out lots of ingredients, some food to snack on, tea, and enjoy.

Please note the amounts are approximate. If you want something to have a different consistency you can play with the amounts.

Sweet Scrub
In a small bowl mix together a tablespoon of sugar and 1/2 tablespoon of light oil. I often use olive oil or almond oil. Almond oil is a little lighter. Mix and gently apply to your face in small circles. You can substitute oats for sugar as well for a gentler scrub.

Smell Good Steam
Heat 2 cups or so of water. Add either 1/2 cup of fresh mint, a mint tea bag or your favorite essential oil. When purchasing essential oils ask the retailer or read the bottle. They will have different effects like calming or invigorating. Mint tends to lift the spirits.

My Mask
This almost tastes good! Combine 1/2 tablespoon of honey, 1/3 tablespoon of baking soda, 1 egg. Mix well and apply. You might want to apply over the sink as it can be kind of messy. Smooth a thin layer over your face and allow it to dry for 10 – 15 minutes. If it becomes uncomfortable then remove. Wash with warm water to remove.

Lovely Lotion
A simple concoction to get you started is a little Vitamin E, aloe juice and a touch of vegetable glycerin. If it feels sticky there is likely too much glycerin.

There are TONS of resources on the Internet and in books today. It is a little science experiment each time and plus, it is fun to see exactly what goes into your beauty products. Enjoy!
