PRESS RELEASE: Women’s Free Self-Defense Seminar Makes Women Into Warriors

KALISPELL, MT, OCTOBER 28, 2016 –

Straight Blast Gym of Montana and SBG North celebrate Women’s Health Month every October to help educate and motivate women in the Flathead Valley. SBG provides free classes, inspiring content, community events, and advice from experts on how to enrich their lives and stay healthy. To culminate the month, SBG offers a free Women’s Self-Defense Seminar in order to raise awareness about violence and teach real-life skills on how to protect themselves.

Over 50 women attended the Warrior Woman Self-Defense Seminar ranging from ages 13 all the way up into their 70s. Coaches and current students volunteered to help teach the material in small groups. All of the women left more confident and with a better understanding of how to avoid unsafe encounters.

Leah Taylor, a black belt and coach in Jiu Jitsu and Head Strength & Conditioning coach at Straight Blast Gym in Kalispell said:

“At least 1 in 6 women will be assaulted in their lifetime. Unfortunately, the attackers are most often someone who is known to the women as either an acquaintance or perhaps a closer relation. I have met too many women that have been victimized at some point in their lives. I want to teach all of the women I meet to develop a warrior mindset. This is one of the most important things I do as a female martial arts instructor. A woman that carries herself with confidence, remains aware, and surrounds herself with people that support her is a woman far less likely to be selected as a victim. I hope that they tell their friends and family about what they learned this weekend, it just may save their life”.

The next Women’s Self Defense Seminar will be on May 13, 2017 at SBG North in Whitefish.
